Use Your Settlement Services Before the Clock Runs Out

As of April 1, 2026, Canada now limits how long permanent residents can access federally funded settlement services, up to 6 years after receiving PR status. If you arrived a few years ago, your access window may be closer to ending than you think. These services are free and incredibly valuable.

What to do:

• Log in to IRCC's online portal to check your PR status date ircc.canada.ca
• Calculate how many years of settlement access you have left
• Register for language training (LINC/CLIC), employment help, or newcomer orientation now, don't wait
• Ask your local newcomer centre what services you qualify for today

IRCC Newcomer Portal

What it is: The IRCC Newcomer Portal is the official Government of Canada online hub for accessing settlement services, checking application status, and finding programs designed for newcomers at any stage of their journey.

Who it helps: All permanent residents, protected persons, and Convention refugees, regardless of which province you live in.

"May Long"
